Being a phytochemist, hand on experience handling and troubleshooting state of art high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is one of fundamental skills that one must learn and appreciate. This analytical skill is required in the field to assist revealing thousands of metabolites present in natural products. One way to discover novel compounds which leads to many medicinal purposes. HPLC is often coupled with smart detectors such as photo diode array, ultraviolet, mass spectrometry etc. Personally, I found HPLC is a wonder in natural product chemistry which every one in the field should appreciate. To date, this technique is never obsolete and still heavily used in the quality control in many pharmaceutical and nutraceutical fields. Kudos to the inventors!
