Postgraduate opportunity - New journey ahead

2023 - I am excited to inform that I'm ready to open for postgraduate positions under my supervision. I'm recruiting for prospect candidates who keen to explore the new breakthrough of natural product research together. Retrospective - Being a master student myself back in 2017 right after my first degree, I started seeking for potential supervisor at the end of my final semester during the internship period. I wrote in emails to a few big names in Malaysia who actively doing research on natural products. Some replied and some not. I was fortunate that the first person who replied my email last time was kind enough to become my postgraduate supervisor, Prof Khozirah Shaari, head of Laboratory of Natural Products, Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia. I expressed my interest on doing natural product research specifically on Kratom. After considering the pros and cons on this species particularly in Malaysia. We put aside the idea instead focusing on more promising future research. My internship at Malaysian Palm Oil Board provided some insights on oil palm research led to creation of proposal on the transformation of agricultural biomass into high quality products. I vividly remember my first task given by my supervisor to synthesize the information in one of her research article pertaining to characterization of luteolin and apigenin derivatives from oil palm leaf. I came to visit her to discuss further on this task. Seem like she did not satisfy with my explanation and immediately I was told to go back to read again and again until I could come out with chemical structure of the apigenin derivative based on the fragmentation pattern retrieved from LC-MS/MS chromatogram. I spent the weekend to work on it. On Monday, I came to visit her again. I was on cloud nine she agreed to let me start the laboratory work the day after. What a memory.
